What is a Surgical Guide?

A surgical guide is a computerized guide to allow the best placement of dental implants in your mouth. Previously, it was believed that the amount of bone was of great importance for the success of an implant. Today, we know that the accurate placement of the implant is decisive for a successful treatment. This way, the surgical guide allows to transfer the surgical treatment plan into the patients’ mouth, guiding the dentists and providing greater security and precision to the process.

What are the components and types of a Surgical Guide?

A Surgical Guide has two components, a guiding cylinder and the contact surface (patient’s gums or jaw). The cylinders within the drill guide the drill to the location and orientation needed for the implant.

There are three types of surgical guides: bone supported, mucosa supported, and tooth supported. At Dario Chaves Dental Clinic we will assess your specific case so that we design the surgical guide that best fits your needs, and this way we can guarantee an excellent success rate with your implants.
